The largest mass shooting on American soil occurred this weekend at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. With 50 people dead and 53 wounded, the news has traveled across the world and Americans are grieving. The heinous and inhumane act is now being labeled by security organizations and government agencies as an act of terrorism.
Terrorism. It is no longer, and hasn’t been for a while, something that only happens overseas or outside of our borders. It is here, it is present, and it is real.
This threat to the United States calls for someone with knowledge about international affairs, foreign actors and organizations that pose a danger, and radicalized religious and political leaders abroad. Republican U.S. Senator John McCain — the senior Senator from Arizona — possess that knowledge. As the Chairman of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain and his colleagues oversee the military, the Department of Defense, and other matters related to defense policy. As a veteran himself, Senator McCain also understands what it is like for our men and women in uniform who keep us safe each and every day.
Kelli Ward who is running against Sen. McCain, on the other hand, has said herself that she has “never voted on a single national security bill.” Last week Ward touted her endorsement from former U.S. Congressman Ron Paul who is notoriously weak on foreign policy and believes in isolationism. Paul even believes that 9/11 was America’s fault, and claims that “If we ever get the full truth [about 9/11], we’ll find out that our government had it in the records exactly what the plans were, or at least close to.” This comes from a woman, Kelli Ward, who herself has come under significant fire for believing in chemtrail theories!
This is not a time in American history to elect people with no leadership abilities, crazy conspiracy theories, and lack of understanding about international defense and security. We need real leadership. We need someone who is known by foreign leaders and dignitaries. We need someone who takes the threat of terrorism and knows how to defend and protect us from it. We need Senator John McCain to remain the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Frankly, Kelli Ward has zero foreign policy and defense experience, and that is just too dangerous for the United States.
