Mayor John Giles and Former Mayor Scott Smith endorse Lewis

Mesa – Jerry Lewis Running for Mesa City Council District 3

Mesa businessman and educator Jerry Lewis returning to public service as he seeks to serve Mesa residents on the City Council.

Jerry Lewis, who served as Mesa’s Senator 2011-2013 filed paperwork this week to run for Mesa City Council. Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh, a successful attorney, and longtime Mesa resident and council member has represented district 3 and will be stepping down at the end of 2016.

Of his run Jerry Lewis stated,

“Dennis Kavanaugh has served West Mesa honorably and I appreciate his service. As someone who has been a part of this community for the past 3 decades I care very deeply about the kind of city I am passing on to my children. I want Mesa to be the type of community that keeps our kids here because we have quality jobs, community spirit, and a top-notch menu of educational options. I look forward to meeting residents over the course of this campaign and connecting with them to continue the positive momentum Mesa has under our current leadership.”

Current Mesa Mayor John Giles who is endorsing Lewis added, “Jerry Lewis is exactly what we need on the Mesa City Council. He is a dedicated community resident who will work hard for Mesa District 3. His experience as an accountant means he will always look out for hardworking taxpayers. His dedication to our schools as an educator, and as a parent of children who have all attended Mesa Public Schools shows he will continue his advocacy for quality education. His experience as a legislator gives him valuable insights and relationships that will help propel Mesa forward. Experience Matters! Vote Jerry Lewis for Mesa City Council.”

In addition to having support from Mayor Giles, Lewis also adds the support of Scott Smith, the former Mayor of Mesa. Mayor Smith said of his support for Jerry, “Mesa needs experienced leadership that is focused on a broader vision of what Mesa can be. Jerry Lewis will work to meet the needs of Mesa families, businesses, and communities to continue Mesa’s momentum as a quality place to live, work, and recreate.”

Lewis has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Brigham Young University. A Mesa resident since 1982 he and his wife, Janet, have seven children. Lewis has worked as a teacher, school administrator, and business owner. He has also been a dedicated community servant involved in numerous community organizations and boards.
